Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Council gives accolade to Intervention Ministries on its 1st Annual Fundraiser Dinner and supports its mission to help prevent violent crimes, assist in solving violent crimes and to provide outreach services to families who are deeply affected by the loss of loved ones to homicide and other violent crimes; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Friday, February 18, 2005 be declared "Divine Intervention Ministries Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, Divine Intervention Ministries (D.I.M.) is hosting its 1st Annual Fundraiser Dinner, an evening of entertainment with a silent auction on Friday, February 18, 2005, 6:30 p.m., at The East Liberty Presbyterian Church, 116 South Highland Ave. in East Liberty, which is sponsored by Pittsburgh City Guide, Magee-Womens Hospital, Pittsburgh Penguins, Mellon Bank, Center for Victims of Violent Crimes and Carlow University; and
 
Whereas, Valerie Dixon and Debra Germany—mothers who lost their only sons to homicide—co-founded D.I.M., a faith-based, non-profit organization in 2001, which provides a sundry of outreach services to more than 70 families in Pennsylvania who have been  effected by the death of  a loved one in a homicide, which is augmented by two billboard campaigns developed by D.I.M. to encourage witnesses to "come forward" called Prevent the Crime Before It Happens for the Pittsburgh area and Signs Up!, a partnership with the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office and Pittsburgh law-enforcement officials; and
 
Whereas, journalist, Lynn Hayes Freeland will introduce presentations that will focus on D.I.M.'s 2005 outreach theme, Communities Helping and Healing, by Mary Beth Buchanan, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania and Dr. Stephen B. Thomas, the Director of the Center for Minority Health.
