WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1986; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter has inducted over 100 Italian American athletes from the Greater Pittsburgh region who made their impact on the local sporting scene in a wide array of sports, including baseball, football, boxing, soccer and auto racing; and
WHEREAS, each year, the Pittsburgh Chapter, in addition to induction, presents achievement awards to outstanding individuals in the community and scholarships to exceptional Italian American students in financial need; and
WHEREAS, the following individuals will be honored at the 23rd Annual Awards and Scholarship Banquet to be held on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the Westin Convention Center:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates the honorees and thanks them for their years of service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares March 22, 2009, "National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
