WHEREAS, the Washington Heights Athletic Association is a volunteer organization that represents the Mt. Washington and Duquesne Heights neighborhoods in District 2; and,
WHEREAS, the W.H.A.A.'s volunteers have devoted countless hours of labor and extensive personal assets over a number of years, to create and maintain one of the many outstanding community sports organization in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, the members of the W.H.A.A. work directly with youth of all ages and backgrounds, teaching them specific sports skills as well as important life values such as camaraderie, discipline, hard work, and respect for others ; and,
WHEREAS, one of the Washington Heights Athletic Association's most valuable qualities is the strong relationships the volunteers form not only with the twenty different teams but with each other as well; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Washington Heights Athletic Association for their dedication to creating and maintaining a successful and influential athletic organization that not only fosters the youth within the community but equips the volunteers to make this organization a success ; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 1, 2012, to be "Washington Height Athletic Association Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
