WHEREAS, on June 7, 2009, the Syed Farooq Hussaini Islamic Interfaith Network will hold its first event to honor the life and work of the late Syed Farooq Hussaini; and
WHEREAS, the event will feature three speakers, one each from the Christian, Islamic, and Jewish faiths, who will discuss the topic, "Interfaith Relationships: From Dialogue to Engagement;" and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hussaini dedicated his life to reaching out to individuals from all religious backgrounds to promote respect, justice, peace and an overall concern for human beings; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hussaini worked together with those of various faiths to resolve interfaith and intercultural conflict through dialogue and action; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hussaini's wife Karen founded the The Syed Farooq Hussaini Islamic Interfaith Network after his untimely death in 2008 in order to continue his life's work of educating people about Islam and connecting people of different faiths.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes those individuals who continue the legacy of Syed Farooq Hussaini and thanks them for the peace and justice they promote throughout our City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 7, 2009, "Syed Farooq Hussaini Islamic Interfaith Network Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
