WHEREAS, 2014 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama; and "100 Years On…" not only marks the Centennial Celebration of the past 100 years, but also the future as it is embodied in the school's current pool of some of the most talented acting students in the country; and
WHEREAS, Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama is the oldest university-based, degree-granting drama school in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the school offers conservatory training that champions rigorous education, scholarship, research and innovative cross-disciplinary interaction and is recognized as an international leader in the arts and technology; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh embraces with pride the School of Drama's impressive accomplishments, including alumni who have won 6 Academy Awards,
99 Emmy Awards, and 31 Tony Awards; and
WHEREAS, during the past 100 years, CMU School of Drama has trained innovators and leaders in the theater, film and television industries, from composers and actors, directors and producers to lighting, set and costume designers; and
WHEREAS, the CMU School of Drama continues to enrich the cultural life of our community along with impressive representation throughout the entire entertainment industry nationally and abroad; and
WHEREAS, the school will be marking the Centennial in three cities: Pittsburgh on February 22, New York City on March 10th and Los Angeles on May 8th, with patron dinners and exclusive celebrations for School of Drama students, alumni, faculty, staff and supporters.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby pay tribute to the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama's first 100 years of success, celebrate the next 100 years of innovation and talent in the arts and entertainment professions, directly affecting how people experience our world at large.
