Body
WHEREAS, the crime of Home Invasion has increased dramatically in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Home Invasion alone is a very serious crime, as it removes the sanctity of the home and results in overwhelming fear and anxiety; and

WHEREAS, the crime of Home Invasion is usually accompanied by other heinous crimes such as robbery, assault, kidnapping and murder to name a few; and

WHEREAS, Home Invasion places undo burden on society due to its impact on individuals, families, communities, law enforcement and the medical establishment; and

WHEREAS, in the past, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has seen fit to increase penalties for crimes (such as dealing drugs) committed in the immediate vicinity of schools, another area presumed to be inherently safe.

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

Section 1. That the Council of the City of Pittsburgh requests that the members of the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives work cooperatively to increase penalties for crimes associated with Home Invasion in a manner similar to the increased penalties levied in the immediate area of our schools.
