Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the three Pittsburgh Jewish Day Schools for raising visibility of the schools among Jewish families and the larger community through community events, open houses, educational events, essay contests, a parade and a bonfire ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 16 - 22, 2011, to be "PITTSBURGH JEWISH DAY SCHOOL WEEK" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Jewish Day Schools in the United States provide a high quality education coupled with a deep and lasting connection to Jewish values and in Pittsburgh serves as a magnet and an anchor for the community, contributing stability and a unique cooperation with community partners ; and,
WHEREAS, in Pittsburgh, Jewish Day Schools celebrate and continue decades of tradition and offer Jewish families a unique opportunity to have their children experience a high quality education coupled with a rich understanding of Jewish history, language, culture and traditions ; and,    
WHEREAS, Jewish Day School students at Community Day School, Hillel Academy and Yeshiva Schools have a commitment to rigorous academics and typically excel on SAT's and attend Ivy League, private and competitive colleges, universities and seminaries around the world ; and,
WHEREAS, Community Day School, a Solomon Schechter Day School with 280 students K-8, was founded in 1972 and promotes academically strong , ethical, knowledgeable Jews ; and,
WHEREAS, Hillel Academy , founded in 1948 , has 248 students and offers an emphasis on Jewish and rigorous general studies, a love of Israel and a commitment to community service; and,
WHEREAS, Yeshiva Schools, founded in 1942, has 400 students and offers a comprehensive curriculum of secular and Judaic studies from preschool to high school and promotes a deep understanding of Torah.
