Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 4, 2018, to be "Shawn Robinson Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Shawn Robinson, a native of Warren, Ohio, founded the nonprofit Orange Arrow Players Association in 2013 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a guiding philosophy to coach student-athletes from the elementary to the collegiate school levels to expand their mindset beyond the playing field and prepare them for success in life beyond sports; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson attended Warren G Harding High School in Warren, Ohio, where he played football, basketball, and was a track athlete, going on to receive a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh for football under Coach Walt Harris, and becoming the seventh ranked player in the nation for most interceptions in his sophomore year; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson received a BA in Communication from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Strayer University, thereby beginning a career in sales after a career-impacting injury prevented him from being drafted to the National Football League; and,

WHEREAS, through Shawn's leadership, Orange Arrow has partnered with the University of Pittsburgh, Robert Morris University, Florida Atlantic University, and the University of Miami to train college student-athlete to coach younger student-athletes through and engaging, sports themed curriculum that teaches life and social skills; and,

WHEREAS, a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundations grant to the Pittsburgh Public Schools system, where Mr. Robinson worked as a substitute teacher and in human resources, allowed him to create the Teachers Matter initiative and event to encourage better appreciation of teachers, engaging to date more than 1,000 elementary and middle school students, in addition to 120 college student athletes; and,

WHEREAS, for his work with the Orange Arrow Players Association, Mr. Robinson has been awarded the President's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution of more than 4,000 hours of service in a lifetime;
