Title: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in recognition of the joy that the Sounds of Pittsburgh Chorus has brought to its many audiences in and around the City of Pittsburgh, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to honor the women of the Sounds of Pittsburgh Chorus for their talent, drive and energy; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare that Wednesday, July 13, 2005 as “Barbershop Music Appreciation Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the barbershop style of four-part, a cappella harmony arrangements is an original American musical art form that lends itself to a variety of songs from any era that can be sung by quartets or choruses; and
 
WHEREAS, the popularity of this style of singing is evidenced by the existence of Sweet Adelines International, a highly respected world wide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance; and
 
WHEREAS, With nearly 30,000 members world wide, all singing in English, this independent, nonprofit music education association is one of the world's largest singing organizations for women and is celebrating it's 60th year on July 13, 2005; and
 
WHEREAS, as a member of Lake Erie Region #17 of Sweet Adelines International,  for the past thirty years the City of Pittsburgh has been the home to the Sounds of Pittsburgh Chorus, an award winning, dynamic women's chorus directed by Denny Price, which strives for musical excellence within a friendly atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.
