Title: WHEREAS, the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a Victorian glasshouse, gardens and tropical forest conservatory in the Schenley Park area of Pittsburgh, housing thousands of exotic plants and flowers in 13 rooms surrounded by lush gardens, sparkling fountains and shimmering pools; and, WHEREAS, the Phipps will be hosting a spectacular exhibit of the works of the master of glass art, DALE CHIHULY, which opens on May 10, 2007, and runs through November 9, 2007; and, WHEREAS, Dale Chihuly has done more to raise the public's interest in glass as a fine art form than any artist of his time, combining innovations in glass blowing with a passion for color and endless creative energy; and, WHEREAS, the exhibit, CHIHULY AT PHIPPS:GARDENS AND GLASS, is a spectacular ,visually stunning display of glass sculptures installed in the conservatory setting and created collaborations between the horticulturists and landscape designers at Phipps with the pioneers in the use of glass ...

WHEREAS, the exhibit, CHIHULY AT PHIPPS:GARDENS AND GLASS, is a spectacular ,visually stunning display of glass sculptures installed in the conservatory setting and created collaborations between the horticulturists and landscape designers at Phipps with the pioneers in the use of glass from the Chihuly Studios; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dale Chihuly has done only seven similar installations in seven years in the United States and London that drew 950,000 visitors; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Phipps expects to host over 150,000 new visitors for CHIHULY AT PHIPPS, offering day and evening timed ticketing and the opportunity to see one of the most dazzling displays of brilliantly colored glass in the world.
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize DALE CHIHULY and the CHIHULY STUDIOS for the creation of this spectacular exhibit; and,       
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the PHIPPS  for its visionary  selection of the Chihuly glass exhibit; and,
 
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declares May 10, 2007, to be CHIHULY AT PHIPPS: GARDENS AND GLASS DAY in the City of Pittsburgh.
