WHEREAS, the 50th anniversary of Light Up Night will be celebrated in Downtown Pittsburgh on November 19 and 20, 2010; and
WHEREAS, the first Light Up Night was held on Monday, Nov. 21, 1960, as a partnership between the Golden Triangle Association and the Building Owners and Managers Association, where all the lights in Downtown buildings were turned on and major department stores unveiled their featured Christmas windows at exactly 6:00pm; and
WHEREAS, Friday evening's event will feature performances in Market Square and on the Clemente Bridge, a parade of high school marching bands and a fireworks display that will launch from the Warhol Bridge; and
WHEREAS, Saturday's events include family-oriented performances in Market Square, Snoopy's 60th Birthday Bash at PPG Ice Rink, a candlelight carriage parade and a theatrical production with Santa and Mrs. Claus; and
WHEREAS, Light Up Night organizers are expecting 500,000 people to visit downtown and take part in this year's holiday fun, far exceeding last year's crowd of 300,000 people.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, its partners and its sponsors, including the Colcom Foundation, for putting on the annual celebration of Light Up Night and encourages all Pittsburghers to take part in the festivities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 19 and 20, 2010, "Light Up Night Weekend" in the City of Pittsburgh.
