Resolution nominating Allegheny River Boulevard a Scenic Byway.

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh has nominated a portion of Allegheny River Boulevard to be designated a Pennsylvania Byway; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Pennsylvania Byways Initiative is to support local initiatives to enhance the visual impact of a route; maintain the natural resources and intrinsic qualities along the route; and educate residents and visitors about the history and culture of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the nominated portion of Allegheny River Boulevard is recommended to be established as a Byway corridor to display the recognized historical resources along its route.
WHEREAS, the nominated portion of Allegheny River Boulevard is blessed with both outstanding scenic views and the recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors.
WHEREAS, tourism is now the second largest industry in the state of Pennsylvania and provides excellent economic opportunities for Pennsylvania municipalities along a Pennsylvania Scenic Byway.
WHEREAS, the establishment of this portion of Allegheny River Boulevard as a Pennsylvania Scenic Byway would not only highlight and feature the historical attributes and recreational resources along the route, but would also make the route eligible for funds to enhance various locations along the route for the education, enjoyment, safety of visitors and residents, as well as encourage the preservation of the city's natural and historical resources for its posterity; and
WHEREAS, in the future, the goal is to acquire federal scenic by-way designation, which will require our local commitment to preserve the intrinsic qualities of the Allegheny River Boulevard Scenic Byway though zoning or other land management techniques.
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
