Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the health care professionals that care for patients with lung disease and the advocates that work to promote lung health through effective public policy; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 3, 2006 "American Lung Association Health Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh is concerned with protecting the health of its citizens; and
 
WHEREAS, lung disease refers to ongoing obstructive diseases such as asthma, infections such as tuberculosis, lung cancer, and pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis. Lung disease causes 1 in 7 deaths in the United States each year; and
 
WHEREAS, it is estimated that $833 billion will be spent on treating lung disease in the United States in the next 20 years; and
 
WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 7th the American Lung Association of Pennsylvania will host "An Evening in Paris" at the DoubleTree Hotel to raise funds to help those afflicted with lung cancer and to honor physician David Laman, nurse Geri Reichenbach, and respiratory therapist Roslyn Pratt for providing exceptional care to lung disease patients; and
