Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend Dr. Delphina B. Briscoe, Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Public Elementary Schools for being a valuable asset to our school system and does wish her well in her retirement endeavors; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does declare Thursday, December 18, 2003 as "Dr. Delphina B. Briscoe Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body

WHEREAS, Delphina B. Briscoe received a Master's Degree of Education from Duquesne University in 1963 and a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1975 and has faithfully provided 24 tireless years of service to the Pittsburgh Public Schools; and

 

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers will honor Delphina B. Briscoe, PhD. for her outstanding and dedicated years of service as Supervisory Instructional Specialist, in the Middle Schools Department from 1979 -1984 and as Principal of Margaret Milliones Middle School from 1984-1997. Dr. Briscoe also served as the Regional Assistant Superintendent of the North-Central Region providing leadership to the Elementary, Middle and Secondary Schools in 1998 and as a Consultant, directing and implementing the North-Central Redistricting plan in 1999; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Briscoe is currently the Executive Director of the Elementary Schools directing and coordinating 28 Elementary School principals. It is also acknowledged that Dr. Briscoe has made herself accessible and visible to Principals, Teachers and the student body alike, thus demonstrating both inspirational leadership and perseverance.  Dr. Briscoe is recognized for demonstrating compassionate guidance that ensures that the purpose of the life of each student is revealed, enhanced and prepared for the future. Whose goal ensures that no child is left behind.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend Dr. Delphina B. Briscoe, Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Public Elementary Schools for being a valuable asset to our school system and does wish her well in her retirement endeavors.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does declare Thursday, December 18, 2003 as "Dr. Delphina B. Briscoe  Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
