WHEREAS, the Tree of Hope is sponsoring its 7th annual Christmas celebration "Joy To the World" on Friday, December 22, 2006, at the Emory United Methodist Church, for the children of victims in Allegheny County.
WHEREAS, the Tree of Hope, is a non-profit faith-based organization offering help, hope and healing to families who have suffered traumatic losses - with a special focus on the children who are left behind in the aftermath of suicide, homicide or the tragic loss of a parent.
WHEREAS, Adrienne Young, the founder of the Tree of Hope, was herself a witness to such a crises when her 18 year old son, Javon, a student at Carnegie-Mellon University, was senselessly murdered while home for Christmas break in 1994. Ms. Young and other parents agreed they must bridge the gap and have a reciprocal relationship with the service providers of the community and the children, hence the Tree of Hope.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Tree of Hope for its significant contribution to the assistance of children of victims of violent crimes in the City of Pittsburgh, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, December 22, 2006, to be Tree of Hope Day here in the city of Pittsburgh.
