WHEREAS, the Tree of Hope, is a non-profit faith-based organization offering help, hope and healing to families who have suffered traumatic losses - with a special focus on the children who are left behind in the aftermath of suicide, homicide or the tragic loss of a parent.

WHEREAS, Adrienne Young, the founder of the Tree of Hope, was herself a witness to such a crises when her 18 year old son, Javon, a student at Carnegie-Mellon University, was senselessly murdered while home for Christmas break in 1994.  Ms. Young and other parents agreed they must bridge the gap and have a reciprocal relationship with the service providers of the community and the children, hence the Tree of Hope.
