Title
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh's trail system plays an important role in supporting economic development through positively affecting property values, attracting knowledgeable workers and young professional talent to live and work, retaining and attracting retirees, and increasing tourism; and,
WHEREAS, The Three Rivers Heritage Trail, which runs along all three rivers in the Pittsburgh region including the Allegheny Riverfront, currently has an undeveloped critical gap from Washington's Landing to the Borough of Millvale; and,
WHEREAS, closing this gap is priority for completion of both the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and the Millennium Greenway from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg, and will be impacted by the Route 28 Improvement Project; and,
WHEREAS, Friends of the Riverfront is the project sponsor for the closure of the gap in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh, Penn DOT and Borough of Millvale, DCNR, and Allegheny County; and,
WHEREAS, Friends of the Riverfront, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable riverfront development throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, including riverfront trails and greenways with public access and continuous connections to other trails throughout Allegheny County and other parts of the region; and,
WHEREAS, Friends of the Riverfront's goal is to increase awareness and engagement with the Pittsburgh region's rivers and riverfront through activities, stewardship and expansion of water and land trails;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh fully supports the development initiative of the Friends of the Riverfront to connect the City of Pittsburgh upstream to the Borough of Millvale along the right bank of the Allegheny Riverfront to close the gap in the Three Rivers Heritage trail; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Friends of the Riverfront, Inc. and thank them for promoting the City of Pittsburgh's ...
