WHEREAS, Jim Gregg has devoted his life to youth sports and coaching Greenfield's children - starting out as a baseball coach at 14 when he was still just a kid himself; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gregg went on to coach boys' basketball at St. Rosalia Academy for nearly 50 years, served as the President of the Greenfield Baseball Association (GBA), and continues to coach Little League for the GBA going on nearly 60 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gregg has nurtured generations of Greenfield kids - not only teaching them the skills of the game, but also building their character by demonstrating the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance as well as how to achieve victory with humbleness and accept defeat with grace; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gregg served as the Deputy Warden at the Allegheny County Jail from 1975 to 2005, where he saw the population grow from roughly 300 to more than 3,000 inmates, and sympathized with so many incarcerated individuals who were there because of drugs and drug addiction; and
WHEREAS, when a local mother lost her son to an overdose and asked Mr. Gregg for help in making sure that no other Greenfield parent would have to experience that same pain, he co-founded Greenfield Organized Against Drugs, which connects at-risk youth with those who have suffered from addiction in hopes that they learn the dangers of following that same path; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gregg was a long-time member of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, representing his neighbors in Ward 15, Precinct 4; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gregg also serves on the planning committee of the Greenfield Community Awards Dinner, an annual event honoring everyday Greenfielders of all ages for achievements, volunteerism, and community-based work that make that Greenfield such a wonderful place to live; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gregg is also a cancer survivor, who, despite long-term physical impacts, has continued to pursue the life he loves, supporting his community and serving as role model ...
