Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, acknowledges the longstanding contributions of the Pittsburgh Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., and its members, for promoting resilience, entrepreneurship, fellowship, and excellence for Black Women and the Black Community as a whole. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 14, 2024, to be "Pittsburgh Club of the National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, this proclamation honors the 100th Year Anniversary of the Business and Professional Girls' Club of the Centre Avenue YWCA (Girls' Club) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, founded with Ms. Mary Turner Burrell's vision when she and a group of young women in 1924 formed the Girls' Club, which later affiliated with the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. (NANBPWC) led by President Betty Allen Graves in 1951; and,

WHEREAS, in 1935 NANBPWC, Inc. was founded by seven courageous visionaries who sought to promote and protect the interests of African American business and professional women, serve as advisors for young people seeking to enter business and other professions, improve the quality of life in local and global communities, and to foster good fellowship; and,

WHEREAS, the National Association and Pittsburgh Club of the NANBPWC, Inc. are organized exclusively for charitable, educational, entrepreneurial and scientific purposes: to implement programs and seminars of interest to the community; to be a resource to provide skills and services that help increase individual self-image, awareness and advance educational opportunities by awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors; and,

WHEREAS, The National Association and Pittsburgh Clubs of the NANBPWC, Inc. are committed to offering an array of services designed to have a positive impact on the residents in our communities with focus centers relating to: Health, Education, Employment, Economic Development, Technology, and Community Service; and,
