Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes Carnegie Mellon University, the Founders of the Robotics Institute, Professors Raj Reddy and Angel Jordan, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation President Tom Murrin, for their visionary sense of robots and their importance to society, and to the great robots that are this year being inducted into the Robot Hall of Fame.

WHEREAS; Carnegie Mellon University, a world class university located in the heart of Pittsburgh's East End, is home to the Robotics Institute, the first education and research entity of its kind in the nation; and
 
WHEREAS, the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University, was founded 25 years ago by such giants in the field as Raj Reddy, Tom Murrin and Angel Jordan; and
 
WHEREAS, beginning October 11, 2004, Carnegie Mellon University will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Robotics Institute with a 4-day public interactive event which will provide a forum for the research, educational and business communities to explore and discuss the impact and future of robotics; and
 
WHEREAS, contemporaneously with the celebration of the Robotics Institute's 25th Anniversary, the second annual Robot Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on the Carnegie Mellon campus; and
 
WHEREAS, the Robot Hall of Fame was established by Carnegie Mellon University to honor noteworthy robots, both real and fictional, along with their creators; and
 
WHEREAS, this year, such significant robots as ASIMO, ASTRO BOY, C-3PO, Robby, the Robot and Shakey will be inducted into the Robot Hall of Fame; and
