WHEREAS, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, April 3rd through April 9th in 2016, is designed to raise awareness of the role of graduate and professional students within this nation’s colleges and universities; and,
WHEREAS, there are more than 20,000 graduate and professional students currently studying in Pittsburgh who contribute to the civic mindedness and character of our city; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh’s graduate and professional students have contributed to the economy through innovative research, dedicated volunteer hours to hundreds of worthy causes, and enriched the city’s arts scene both as creators and spectators, and many will go on to act as Pittsburgh’s goodwill ambassadors to the rest of the country and abroad; and,
WHEREAS, graduate and professional students are the future teaching professionals, researchers, and leaders of the governmental, business, and cultural institutions that are so vital to Pittsburgh, the nation, and the world; and,
WHEREAS, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week gives universities throughout the city and the country the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of these students with seminars and other events; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor the contributions and achievements of its graduate and professional students; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the week of April 3rd - 9th as “Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.
