WHEREAS, Marie Pastorius retired after 41 years with the City of Pittsburgh, where she began her career as a summer employee with Parks and Recreation on March 10, 1976; and,
WHEREAS, throughout her 41 years, Marie has worked in the Mayor's Office, Mayor's Service Center, the Public Works, Bureau of Environmental Services, and has been with the Public Safety, Bureau of Police since December of 1979, where she stayed until her retirement; and,
WHEREAS, Marie has proven to be an asset since her employment, being recognized for her exemplary performance in the participation of the Summer Youth Employment Program, and in 1996, was one of the recipients of the Mayor's Award for Employee Excellence for exceptional customer service; and,
WHEREAS, she has received numerous letters of appreciation from several organizations and people for the work she has done for the Traffic Division, Abandoned Vehicles, including, but not limited to, the Housing Authority, Operation Better Block, Weed & Seed Program, the Highland Park Community Club and numerous Council Members and Supervisors, all recognizing her for her positive attitude, outstanding work ethic and great organizational skills; and,
WHEREAS, in 2005, she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for dramatically reducing the amount of abandoned vehicles in the city; and,
WHEREAS, Marie has also been recognized for her volunteering, receiving a Certificate of Appreciation for her volunteer work with Community Crime Prevention, her participation in the Day of Caring, and her work with St. John's Drug Rehab, to which she had to get certified in drug rehabilitation; and,
WHEREAS, Marie, who resides in the Sheraden neighborhood, will spend her retirement with her bird named Lestat; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Marie Pastorius for her outstanding service to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and...
