WHEREAS, Congregation Beth Shalom is a conservative, traditional, egalitarian synagogue located in the heart of Squirrel Hill; and,
WHEREAS, twenty years ago, Congregation Beth Shalom leadership established a Preschool program with a handful of children and teachers which has grown to become a nationally accredited and award winning Pre-School with over 140 children from infant to Pre-K, 35 faculty, a summer camp program and before and after daycare; and,
WHEREAS, the L. Harold and Mary W. Kirkell Preschool of the Beth Shalom Congregation has been recognized multiple times in the past 20 years by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism with the Solomon Schechter Award for School Excellence as well as receiving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Keystone 4-STARS and NAEYC recognition as well as DPW licensing and faculty recognition and awards; and,
WHEREAS, for over 20 years, Fern Moscov, the Founding Director of the Kirkell Preschool, has directed the Jewish learning, education and daycare experience for the Congregation Beth Shalom Early Childhood Department, touching thousands of lives of Jewish children and their families and has devoted countless hours to meet the needs of young children and their families, performing her duties with dignity and compassion for everyone; and,
WHEREAS, Congregation Beth Shalom will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the
L. Harold and Mary W. Kirkell Preschool with an event on June 1, 2008, to honor the founding administrators, volunteers, faculty and parents who brought the Preschool vision together and to honor Fern Moscov for her 20 years of service and dedication.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Congregation Beth Shalom on the 20th Anniversary of the L. Harold and Mary W. Kirkell Preschool and honors Fern Moscov as its Founding Director and for her years of service and devotion to Preschool; and
