WHEREAS, Point Park University began as a small business training college in 1933 under the direction of Dorothy Finkelhor and L. Herbert Finkelhor; and,

WHEREAS, By 1960, the business school had grown to have more than 800 students and would have to relocate to Wood Street in Downtown Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, in that same year the school became known as Point Park Junior College, named for the city's historic Point State Park; and,
WHEREAS, The junior college soon added programs in engineering technology, education, and journalism, and would acquire a space for the performing arts at The Pittsburgh Playhouse in the Oakland neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, on Friday, September 20th Point Park University will be inaugurating Dr. Chris W. Brussalis as the university’s ninth president; and,
WHEREAS, This event marks a significant milestone in Point Park’s history and tradition; and
WHEREAS, The Inauguration of President Brussalis is not just a celebration of his leadership, but a reaffirmation of Point Park's mission; and,
WHEREAS, the inauguration of President Brussalis is an opportunity for the university’s community to come together and celebrate traditions and accomplishments, while looking forward to its continued growth and its bright future under President Brussalis’ guidance; and,
WHEREAS, it is with great joy that the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes September 20th, 2024 as Dr. Chris W. Brussalis day.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Point Park and Dr. Chris W. Brussalis on this special day.
AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares September 20th, 2024 to be Dr. Chris Brussalis Day here in the City of Pittsburgh.
