WHEREAS, based on Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's 2007 recommended budget, the City's parking tax will decrease 5%, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh urges the Pittsburgh Public Parking Authority and all private parking entities to follow the city's lead and reduce their parking costs by 5%; and,
WHEREAS, the intended benefits of the City to forego more than $4 Million Dollars in parking taxes is to allow the savings of the tax reduction to be passed on to consumers giving the citizens of the City of Pittsburgh and our region's commuters the ability to park in the city at a less costly rate; and
WHEREAS, this reduction will result in increased parking in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, increased parking will result in increased business throughout the city; these businesses include, but are not limited to, restaurants, offices, and entertainment services, etc. These businesses would be able to continue operating in the city with lower parking cost as opposed to moving outside of the city.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby urges the Pittsburgh Public Parking Authority and all private parking entities to decrease the cost of parking in their lots by 5% in conjunction with the mayor's proposal to decrease the tax on their lots by 5%.
