Title: WHEREAS, The Oakland School is hosting its second annual Art Show and Auction on Saturday, February 24, 2007, at the Edgewood Country Club; and WHEREAS, The Oakland School is a private, non-profit, co-educational school that serves students in grades 8 through 12 in the heart of the Oakland Business District; and WHEREAS, the Art Show and Auction is held to generate funding for the school's $1,000 Fine Arts Scholarship; and WHEREAS, the auction will be hosted by Ross Galleries, and will feature oils, watercolors, lithographs, sports memorabilia, jewelry and sculpture, as well as a portrait of a bidder done by artist Paula Flaherty; and WHEREAS, the Fine Arts Scholarship is awarded to deserving, talented students who are provided with college preparatory studies and a concentration in fine arts; and WHEREAS, The Oakland School's fine arts program includes participation in outreach programs provided by a variety of Pittsburgh arts organizations in theater, music, dance, gr...

WHEREAS, The Oakland School is hosting its second annual Art Show and Auction on Saturday, February 24, 2007, at the Edgewood Country Club; and
 
WHEREAS, The Oakland School is a private, non-profit, co-educational school that serves students in grades 8 through 12 in the heart of the Oakland Business District; and
 
WHEREAS, the Art Show and Auction is held to generate funding for the school's $1,000 Fine Arts Scholarship; and
 
WHEREAS, the auction will be hosted by Ross Galleries, and will feature oils, watercolors, lithographs, sports memorabilia, jewelry and sculpture, as well as a portrait of a bidder done by artist Paula Flaherty; and

WHEREAS, The Oakland School's fine arts program includes participation in outreach programs provided by a variety of Pittsburgh arts organizations in theater, music, dance, graphic art and other arts; and
 
WHEREAS, the Fine Arts Scholarship is renewable during the student's tenure at the school, and is awarded in addition to financial aid; and
 
WHEREAS, the Oakland School accepts students from diverse backgrounds and accommodates a wide range of educational needs through varied curricular programming.
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Oakland School for its dedication to arts education; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares February 20, 2007, "The Oakland School Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
