WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters (LWV) is celebrating 100 years of empowering voters; and
WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization, founded by Carrie Chapman Catt in 1920, to help women carry out their new responsibilities as voters and encourage them to use their new power to play a part in shaping public policy; and,
WHEREAS, today, the League continues to empower voters by presenting unbiased information about elections, the voting process and issues, encouraging informed and active participation in government; and,
WHEREAS, the League is always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public and advocates for or against policies in the public interest without supporting or opposing any party or candidate; and,
WHEREAS, diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to their vision of democracy, in which every person has the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate; and,
WHEREAS, in honor of their 100th Birthday, the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh will be holding a Celebration on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Senator John Heinz History Center; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the League of Women Voters for their work promoting active, participatory elections and democracy and congratulates them on their 100th Anniversary; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, February 11, 2020 to be “League of Women Voters Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
