WHEREAS, Footloose opened its doors to Bellefonte Street on October 1987; and,

WHEREAS, Jill Rubinstein carried on her family’s third-generation Rubinstein Shoes business legacy from Eastland Mall in McKeesport to Shadyside as Footloose; and,
WHEREAS, Rubinstein graduated from Emory University and officially took on the Footloose legacy in 1990, working full-time after working as a stock person and attending trade shows in New York City since she was 12; and,
WHEREAS, in March 1998, Carol Jackson, the Footloose manager for the next three decades, joined Jill to become the Dynamic Duo, who conquered fashion obstacles and provided the perfect shoe to complement their customers’ outfits for all occasions; and,
WHEREAS, Footloose relocated above e.b. Pepper in 2017, establishing a terrific partnership for years to come; and,
WHEREAS, Footloose has been recognized by the Italian trade for sourcing much of our collection in Italy; and,
WHEREAS, Jill Rubinstein has traveled across the world to curate the finest footwear and accessories for her customers, who have become more like family over the years; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the 36 years of outstanding service of Footloose; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, March 22, 2024, to be “Footloose Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
