Title: WHEREAS, the Howard Levin Clubhouse of Squirrel Hill opened in 2001, and aims to provide a restorative environment for people who have had their lives disrupted by mental illness; and WHEREAS, Jewish Residential Services founded this organization to serve the needs of the mental health community in a culturally Jewish environment; and WHEREAS, the Clubhouse keeps a kosher kitchen and serves the traditional Friday night Sabbath dinner; and WHEREAS, the Clubhouse provides a comprehensive program of goal-directed rehabilitation for vocational, educational, and social growth, as well as long-term supportive opportunities; and WHEREAS, participation in the Clubhouse enables members to rejoin the worlds of friendship, family, important work, employment and education; and WHEREAS, the Clubhouse has three work units, namely the Business Employment Unit, the Member Services Unit, and the Food Services Unit, which employ its members; and WHEREAS, the Howard Levin Clubhouse will hold ...

WHEREAS, Jewish Residential Services founded this organization to serve the needs of the mental health community in a culturally Jewish environment; and
WHEREAS, the Clubhouse keeps a kosher kitchen and serves the traditional Friday night Sabbath dinner; and

WHEREAS, participation in the Clubhouse enables members to rejoin the worlds of friendship, family, important work, employment and education; and
 
WHEREAS, the Clubhouse has three work units, namely the Business Employment Unit, the Member Services Unit, and the Food Services Unit, which employ its members; and
 
WHEREAS, the Howard Levin Clubhouse will hold its first annual "Doorways to Opportunity" Employer Recognition Dinner on March 1, 2007; and
WHEREAS, this celebratory dinner will honor outside employers who welcome the Clubhouse members into their agencies for transitional employment opportunities.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks the Howard Levin Clubhouse for its dedication to serving the mental health community; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares February 27, 2007, "Howard Levin Clubhouse Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
