Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Mr. Daniel Isaiah Gilman for his years of public service and for many more years of commitment to the people of District Eight, the City of Pittsburgh, and beyond; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 6th, 2014 “Daniel Isaiah Gilman Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Monday, January 6th, 2014 Mr. Daniel Isaiah Gilman will be sworn in as the third elected member of Pittsburgh City Council representing District Eight; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Gilman started his early political ambitions as a volunteer on the Al Gore Presidential campaign and later as an intern at the American Civil Liberties Union and eventually served as a Pittsburgh Foundation Fulton Fellow for Congressman Mike Doyle; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Gilman graduated from Shadyside Academy in 2000 and Carnegie Mellon University in 2004 where he served as Student Body President; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Gilman began serving the residents of City Council District Eight in 2004 as an intern for Councilman William Peduto, eventually becoming Chief of Staff; and
 
WHEREAS, as Chief of Staff, Mr. Gilman has been willing to do anything for the constituents that he serves whether it be responding to a concern about an overgrown tree, working on citywide legislative reforms, or bringing billions of dollars of investment into the district, Mr. Gilman has treated every issue with the same level of care and dedication; and
 
WHEREAS, in November of 2013, Mr. Gilman was officially elected by the residents of District 8 to represent them as their future City Councilman guaranteeing many more years of progress and success for the district.
