WHEREAS, The Greater Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church, 3600 California Avenue, will host the Allegheny Scranton District Conference February 17 thru 19, 2011, which includes 67 AME Churches in this District; and
WHEREAS, we welcome The Reverend Dr. Eric Brown will preside over this conference which will include a teaching session, bible study, worship service, business session, appraisal worship and communion and a business session; and
WHEREAS, the new pastor of Greater Allen AME, The Rev. David W. Bethea and his wife, Kathy, will be the hosting pastor; and
WHEREAS, the African Methodist Episcopal Church was born Sunday, November 4, 1787, when Richard Allen, Absalom Jones and other persons of color walked out of St. George Methodist Church because of racism and then organized Bethel Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby welcome The Reverend Dr. Eric Brown, and delegates of the AME Allegheny Scranton District Conference; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 17 thru 19, 2011 to be "Greater Allen AME Church and Allegheny Scranton District Conference Days," in the City of Pittsburgh.
