WHEREAS, Dr. Katy Carroll has been teaching in Pittsburgh Public Schools for twenty-four years and has been a teacher at Faison Elementary School for the last three years; Dr. Carroll has a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education and a Ph.D. in Reading; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Katy Carroll is the lead teacher in the MATCH (Museum Around the Corner from Here) program at Faison Elementary School; she has embraced the partnership and opportunities at the Frick Art and Historical Center by championing the value of its resources to her teaching team and administration; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Carroll teaches her students respect and love; they are encouraged and inspired while using the arts as a vehicle to reach every child, no matter his or her individual abilities; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Katy Carroll has been bestowed the honor of being the recipient of the 2014 Roy A. Hunt Foundation Award for Commitment to Education in the Arts and Humanities and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and honor Dr. Carroll for her commitment in educating our youth; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 22, 2014, to be "Dr. Katy Carroll Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
