WHEREAS, The First Tee of Pittsburgh is an international youth development organization introducing the values of sportsmanship, patience, and diligence through after-school and in-school programs to shape the lives of young people from diverse backgrounds through the game of golf; and,
WHEREAS, the First Tee is a highly acclaimed program and has been the recipient of Golf Digest's Junior Achievement Award as the best program in the country. Its affiliates are sponsored by major professional golf organizations, including the LPGA, PGA of America, PGA TOUR, USGA, and the Augusta National Golf Club; and,
WHEREAS, Bob Ford has an impressive career as a professional golfer and has competed in three U.S. Opens and 10 PGA Championships, making two cuts in each event, including a T-26 in the 1983 Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, The First Tee of Pittsburgh is establishing the "Bob Ford Leadership Award" in honor of Bob's commitment to The First Tee of Pittsburgh and for exemplifying the spirit of golf in Western Pennsylvania as a player, teacher, and head professional at Oakmont Country Club. The award will be given annually to a participant in the program who embodies the characteristics and commitment of Bob Ford. The inaugural recipient will be Eddie Zhang and the award will be presented at The First Tee's event, "Tee it Forward," at the Pittsburgh Golf Club on September 19, 2014.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Bob Ford for being the consummate champion and ambassador of the game of golf and congratulates Bob Ford on the occasion of the creation of the Bob Ford Leadership Award in honor of his unwavering commitment to the mission of The First Tee of Pittsburgh; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, September 19, 2014, to be "Bob Ford Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
