Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
Section 1. Resolution authorizing the Mayor, Director of the Department of Public Safety and the Acting Chief of Police, on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh, to enter into a grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) in the amount of two million nine hundred seventy-one thousand one hundred twenty-two dollars and zero cents ($2,971,122.00). The Department of Justice will provide a maximum of $125,000.00 per officer for a total of $1,875,000.00 to cover the entry level salaries and fringe benefits of the Officers over a 3-year period. The City of Pittsburgh will provide the funds to cover the remaining costs estimated to be $1,096,122.00. The goal is to enable the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police to hire fifteen (15) new police officers above the budgeted strength. The new officers will be trained in community policing and problem solving strategies and be deployed in the Pittsburgh neighborhoods that need them most. The grant agreement shall be approved as to form and substance by the City Solicitor and monies shall be deposited in the General Fund 230000.45704.
Section 2. The Mayor, Director of the Department of Public Safety and the Acting Chief of Police, on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh, are hereby further authorized to enter into agreement or agreements, contract or contracts, and to make all required quarterly reports required under the terms and conditions of this gra...
