Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh extends best wishes to Officer Brian Anderson for a happy and healthy retirement.

WHEREAS, on Monday, June 28, 2004, Police Officer Brian Anderson will be honored with a retirement party; and
 
      WHEREAS, Officer Anderson has had extensive education in various fields of public safety.  He graduated from Salem College with a BA in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Psychology.  While attending college, he served as a firefighter and an EMT.  He received bomb training in 1981, while working for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.  He also earned an Associates Degree in Police Technology from the Community College of Beaver County; and, in 1987, graduated from the Beaver County Police Academy, where he received his Act 120 certification.  He also served as an instructor at the Beaver County Police Academy; and
 
      WHEREAS, in 1992, Officer Anderson joined the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, having been assigned first to Zone 3 and then to Zone 2.  While stationed at Zone 2, Officer Anderson served as the COP Officer in the City's Polish Hill and Lawrenceville communities.  He was instrumental in the establishment of several Block Watches within various neighborhoods of these communities; and
 
      WHEREAS, Officer Anderson has served the residents of these communities well and oftentimes, went above and beyond the call of duty.  He is loved by the seniors, whom he visited in the high rises; he is looked up to by the children, for whom he always has time; and, he will be sorely missed by all of the residents with whom he worked to make these neighborhoods safer and stronger places in which to live and work.
