WHEREAS, established by founder Tenel Dorsey and co-founder Tamiko Stanley, Project H.E.R. (Healing Evolution and Restoration) will celebrate its inaugural launch on Sunday, July31st at Point State Park in the City of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, Project H.E.R. is the foundation of a movement to empower women of color and prioritize mental and emotional health in diverse communities across Pennsylvania and surrounding regions; and

 

WHEREAS, July is National BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color) Mental Health Month. More than half the crimes involving people of color also involve alcohol, drugs, and/or other conditions of behavioral health demonstrating a direct correlation between mental and emotional wellbeing and safety security and quality of life; yet the topic of prioritizing self-care and emotional wellness is often taboo in diverse communities; and,

 

WHEREAS, Project H.E.R. strives to revive our diverse communities by empowering women of color to heal, evolve, and restore by acknowledging and addressing the damage and challenges that result from generational, current and past traumas that are culturally repressed and denounced by our society; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Tenel Dorsey works to strengthen the support of  a collective healing process and Tamiko Stanley works to address the structural inequities in healthcare in order to remedy the effects and systemic impact of the Black Superwoman Schema and other cultural conditions that additionally burden and oppress women of color; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Project H.E.R. for working to remove the stigma associated with mental health and fighting to normalize the prioritization of health wellness and emotional self-care to women of color; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Sunday, July 31, 2022 to be “Tenel and Tamiko H.E.R. Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
