Title: WHEREAS, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) will celebrate its 75th anniversary at the new Pittsburgh headquarters on Washington's Landing on September 29, 2007; and WHEREAS, the WPC maintains the diversity of the region's plants, animals and ecosystems through the protection, conservation and restoration of land and water; and WHEREAS, the WPC has improved the quality of life in the region through programs such as Community Gardens and Greenspace, and works in urbanized areas, small towns, and cities to promote conservation and community involvement; and WHEREAS, WPC recognizes the relationship between humankind and the environment and utilizes science-based strategies, along with collaboration and leadership in order to aid conservation for present and future generations; and WHEREAS, to date, WPC has protected more than 214,000 acres of natural lands in Pennsylvania, protected over 500 miles of streams and rivers, restored "dead" watersheds, planted and maintaine...

WHEREAS, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) will celebrate its 75th anniversary at the new Pittsburgh headquarters on Washington's Landing on September 29, 2007; and
 
WHEREAS, the WPC maintains the diversity of the region's plants, animals and ecosystems through the protection, conservation and restoration of land and water; and
 
WHEREAS, the WPC has improved the quality of life in the region through programs such as Community Gardens and Greenspace, and works in urbanized areas, small towns, and cities to promote conservation and community involvement; and
 
WHEREAS, WPC recognizes the relationship between humankind and the environment and utilizes science-based strategies, along with collaboration and leadership in order to aid conservation for present and future generations; and
 
WHEREAS, to date, WPC has protected more than 214,000 acres of natural lands in Pennsylvania, protected over 500 miles of streams and rivers, restored "dead" watersheds, planted and maintained 140 gardens in 19 counties, and has been responsible for founding six state parks .
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and recognizes its commitment to the welfare of our region; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares September 29th, 2007, "Western Pennsylvania Conservancy 75th Anniversary Celebration Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
