Title: WHEREAS, Valerie Lowe grew up in a loving home with two devout God-fearing parents and two siblings. She resided in Long Island New York and left a17-year corporate career to marry the man she believed to be the love of her life. During her 13-year marriage, she was deprived of financial security, subjected to mental abuse and left homeless while caring for her two young children; and,

WHEREAS, through the grace of God, Ms. Lowe has emerged as a steadfast champion for women still ensnared by the shadows of their abusive pasts. In the past ten years, Valerie has dedicated herself to Domestic Violence Advocacy; and,

WHEREAS, she helped prepare women in a shelter for re-entry into the workforce, was head of a drop-in center for children of domestic violence and homelessness, she initiated a ministry program and volunteer advocacy for survivors and elderly victims of abuse. In 2020, she launched an online 90-day program, which was highly successful in helping women attain lasting transformation; and,

WHEREAS, in her continued commitment to this cause, Ms. Lowe is organizing an event in Mt Washington on October 12, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This event marks the launch of an ongoing support and coaching program designed to empower women to break free from the chains of abuse; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Lowe currently resides in Mt. Washington where she volunteered with the Mt. Washington CDC's beautification project, initiated a Community Garden, serves on the Board for St. Justin Plaza Senior apartments and the Mt. Washington Recreation Center, where she helps to create a nurturing environment for school-age children; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Valerie Lowe, for the selfless work she does to support women who have survived domestic abuse; and,
