WHEREAS, born and educated in Pittsburgh, James W. Humphries Sr. is one of ten siblings, with careers spanning creative arts, construction, and business owners. In his early life, James worked in multiple careers including military service, retailing, property managing and public transportation; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Humphries is a former insurance executive and business owner of J.W. Humphries Insurance & Financial Services Co. He successfully operated his award-winning agency for over 32 years, partnering with many locally based enterprises in the region; and,
WHEREAS, for seven years he owned and operated a remedial driver’s training school, certified by the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles. Though officially retired, Mr. Humphries’ love of people and coaching and mentoring has not allowed him to rest on his well-earned laurels; and,
WHEREAS, despite his retirement, his love for family and music encourage him to continue managing his brother’s quintet, the RH Factor Jazz Quintet. Additionally, he informally mentors young entrepreneurs sowing seeds, and helping ensure future positive growth; and,
WHEREAS, James is happily married to Ruthlyn Humphries and is blessed with four children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also a 40 year member of the Masonic Order and a Past Member of Boaz Lodge #65 in the state of Pennsylvania. He proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mr. Humphries for a life committed to hard work and continuing to mentor young people; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, October 13, 2018, to be “James Humphries Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
