WHEREAS, the Kollel Jewish Learning Center encourages and facilitates the study of Torah and serves as a Jewish learning center for the community; and
WHEREAS, the Center will hold its annual Melava Malka Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, which is the 7th of Adar 5773 on the Hebrew calendar, at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill; and
WHEREAS, the dinner will honor Dr. Dean and Chaya Pollack with the Rabbi Shaul Kagan Legacy Award for their lifetime of service to the City's Jewish community; and
WHEREAS, the Pollacks serve the community with passion and humility through their involvement with Poale Zedeck, Hillel Academy, the United Jewish Federation, the Zionist Organization of America, and the Chevra Kadisha; and
WHEREAS, this year's dinner is dedicated to the memory of Allan Goodkind, a devoted torah scholar who spent his life teaching and serving others, in his role as an English teacher, a pharmacist's assistant, and as a committed volunteer for the JCC Kitchen, cooking and delivering meals to those in need, the Aleph Institute, providing counseling to Jewish inmates, and numerous other organizations; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Dr. Dean and Chaya Pollack for their dedication to the City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 16, 2013 to be "Kollel Jewish Learning Center Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
