WHEREAS, October 6th is a special day for the Physician Assistant, or PA profession, and;
WHEREAS, on this day in 1967, the first Physician Assistants graduated from Duke University, and;
WHEREAS, today there are more than 46,000 Physician Assistants in the United States today, over 3000 in Pennsylvania practice medicine; and
WHEREAS, quality health care is an important concern of the citizens of Pittsburgh, and;
WHEREAS, affordable and accessible medical care is essential for the well being of all citizens, and;
WHEREAS, Physician Assistants are recognized as important members of the health care delivery team working closely with their supervising physicians to enhance the quality of medical care in the City of Pittsburgh, and;
WHEREAS, Physician Assistants around this country and throughout the state will celebrate October 6, 2003 as National Physician Assistant Day, and;
WHEREAS, quality Physician Assistants are trained at the Masters level at Chatham College, a fully accredited Physician Assistant Studies Program, in the City of Pittsburgh;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes, commends and thanks physician assistants for the medical care they provide throughout the year and;
Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim the week of October 5, 2003 through October 11, 2003 to be, "Physician Assistant Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
