Title: WHEREAS, this year DiverseCITY Pittsburgh will be holding The First Annual Greater Pittsburgh DiverseCITY Festival, a one of a kind event that will unify the citizens of Pittsburgh under the overarching themes of community and culture; and, WHEREAS, the four-day festival will provide the residents of Pittsburgh with an opportunity to interact with one another, experience and learn about different ethnic backgrounds and enrich our region and celebrate our similarities and differences; and, WHEREAS, the festival will give the residents of Pittsburgh an opportunity to enrich themselves culturally through workshops, local and national entertainment, events, and activities; and, WHEREAS, the festival is designed to have quality of life, economic, and reputation benefits for the citizens of Pittsburgh as well as the City of Pittsburgh; and, WHEREAS, such benefits include the heightened exposure of regional cultural and ethnic organizations, an increase in Pittsb...

WHEREAS, such benefits include the heightened exposure of regional cultural and ethnic organizations, an increase in Pittsburgh's visibility as a destination site, and the establishment of a premier event that will become nationally known.
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the commitment of the selfless contributors, especially the board of directors and the altruistic volunteers, and thanks DiverseCITY Pittsburgh for hosting the First Annual "Greater Pittsburgh Diversity Festival" to celebrate the unique cultural makeup of Pittsburgh; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, August 16 through Sunday, August 19 to be "Diversity Celebration Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
