Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates the Pittsburgh Board of Education and the staff, parents and community representatives on their new landmark that the school becomes one of the major institutions within the Homewood-Brushton community

WHEREAS, in the fall of 2004, a magical seed will bloom in the heart of the Homewood community; and
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Board of Education authorized the construction of a new elementary school in the Home-Brushton area, a public school that promises inner-city students a quality education comparable to that offered in a "world class school district;
 
WHEREAS, the new Homewood Elementary School is staffed by a team of deeply dedicated individuals; and
 
WHEREAS, the school is set out to prove that with caring instructors, an atmosphere of disciplined creativity, and a refusal to accepted mediocrity will transform the lives of all who attend it; and
 
WHEREAS, the vision is that this community is where everyone is treasured. Through the arts, we create rich learning environments that cultivate personal growth and inspire a love of self, life, and learning.
 
WHEREAS, the new facility represents a $20.4 million investment in the community and will be a valuable resource for the residents of the community;
 
WHEREAS, this new school is prepared to receive students, primarily from Belmar and Regent Square;
 
WHEREAS, the new facility will have an arts educational focus that will provide the students with a wealth of artistic experiences; and
 
WHEREAS, the school will open its doors to children on September 2, 2004 following a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony on Friday, August 24, 2004.
