WHEREAS, MAY is known as "Older Americans Month" nationwide; and
Whereas, Pittsburgh is home to hundreds of older Americans who are diverse, respected citizens who continue to contribute to our nation's social and economic well-being; and
WHEREAS, older Americans are entitled to live lives of dignity and independence; and
Whereas, the Residents of the Steel Workers Towers located at 2639 Perrysville Avenue on the North Side are honoring and celebrating its Older Americans for all that they have achieved and all their hard work and dedication to the City; and
Whereas, there are 13 seniors who are all 80 years of age and older from the Steel Workers Towers who have and continue to make daily contributions to the lives of other Older Americans:

Whereas, these residents make daily contributions such as sending cards to the sick and shut in, making daily visits and offering personal support and making sure that the everyday routine of their lives are comfortable; and
Whereas, on Monday, May 7, 2007, The Steel Workers Towers will host an Ice Cream Social to show appreciation and thanks; and
Now therefore BE IT RESOVED THAT The Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize all the Older Americans and proclaim May 2007 to be Older Americans Month and urges all citizens to honor older adults, and those who care for them, during May and throughout the year. We urge all to promote and participate in activities that contribute to helping older Americans make choices for a healthy and rewarding future.
