WHEREAS, after more than 32 years of service, Sister Margery Kundar, is retiring as principal of St. Benedict the Moor School in the Hill District; and
WHEREAS, Sister Kundar began her teaching career in 1959 and taught at various schools throughout the Pittsburgh and Altoona-Johnstown dioceses; and
WHEREAS, Sister Kundar celebrated 50 years as a Sister of St. Joseph in 2006, an order that designates education as one of its many ministries; and
WHEREAS, Sister Kundar earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education at Carlow College in 1968 and four years later, she received her Master of Education degree, with a minor in reading and language arts, from the University of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Sister Kundar's passion for education and caring deeply about her students has helped many students realize their potential and graduate; and
WHEREAS, the combination of Sister Kundar and the environment that she has cultivated over the years has helped to foster success at St. Benedict the Moor and beyond.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Sister Margery Kundar for being a dedicated and exceptional education leader to the Pittsburgh region; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 7, 2011 to be "Sister Margery Kundar Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
