WHEREAS, founded in 1975, the National Society of Black Engineers works to, "increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community,"; and
WHEREAS, thirty-one years after its establishment, the National Society of Black Engineers continues to encourage and advise minority youth, undergraduates, and graduate students on the opportunities and benefits of the various engineering disciplines; and
WHEREAS, with more than 10,000 members, the National Society of Black Engineers is the largest student-managed organization in the country; and
WHEREAS, stretching from coast-to-coast, the National Society of Black Engineers now has over 270 collegiate chapters, 75 alumni chapters, and 75 pre-college chapters; and
WHEREAS, from March 29, 2006 through April 2, 2006, members of the National Society of Black Engineers from across the country will converge on Pittsburgh for the 32nd annual National Convention.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh welcomes the participants, guests, and speakers of the National Society of Black Engineers National Convention; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares the week of March 27, 2006 through April 2, 2006 as, "National Society of Black Engineers Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
