WHEREAS, volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of Tonette R. Stewart with their Community “Shero” Leadership Award; and,
WHEREAS, Tonette R. Stewart, a National Honor Society graduate of Pensacola High School and currently enrolled at Robert Morris University pursing a degree in Accounting, Tonette R. Stewart has had a distinguished professional career as well a remarkable volunteer life in her community. Retired in 2006, Tonette was a Teller at Dollar Bank for six years, a Teller with the Federal Reserve Savings Bond and Cash Destruction Team and with for Verizon for 13 years; and,
WHEREAS, a member of the Central Baptist Church for 20+ years, Tonette has been active with the N.A.A.C.P. and the International F.A.A.M.M. and O.E.S. She has been teaching Line Dancing at the Kinglsey House for approximately 13 years and also teaches at the Thelma Lovette YMCA. A proud mom of one son, Tonette credits her line dancing instruction with a way to strengthen one’s heart, lower your A1C, tone your muscles and lose weight as well as make you king or queen of the dance floor; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Tonette R. Stewart for her dedicated work to improve the lives of others and congratulates her on receiving the Nabhi Christian Ministries Community “Shero” Leadership Award.
