WHEREAS, William “Jeff” Jefferson, a graduate of Lincoln University, came to the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority on June 28, 1965, beginning his career as a Laboratory Chemist and the youngest person in his department; and,
WHEREAS, through his hard work and dedication, Jeff was promoted to Assistant Chief of the Laboratory in 1972. Jeff was then chosen to lead ALCOSAN’s Industrial Waste Department upon its creation in 1973, where he created and developed the pre-treatment program. Later, Jeff became the Acting Chief of the Laboratory in 1985, Chief of the Laboratory in 1986, and later Manager of the Laboratory in 1991, all the while charged with heading up both the lab and the Industrial Waste Department; and,
WHEREAS, in 1997, Jeff was promoted to Environmental Audit Administrator, a role in which he developed the procedures and policies employed by ALCOSAN to meet the needs and requirements of important and vital safety regulations. Jeff’s tireless commitment to the highest quality of work has helped to guarantee that ALCOSAN meets the highest environmental standards; and,
WHEREAS, Jeff, the longest-serving employee at ALCOSAN, will be retiring effective May 1, 2016. He leaves behind a legacy of unfettered commitment to the highest standard of hard work, congeniality, comradery, and positivity; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend, and congratulate Jeff on a long, storied and exemplary career at ALCOSAN that spanned five decades; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, April 28, 2016, to be “JEFF JEFFERSON DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.
