Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh for their dedication to the development of the arts in Pittsburgh; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares, Friday, July 14th, "Opera Theater of Pittsburgh's Ring Cycle Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh was founded in 1978 by Mildred Miller Posvar to focus on education and audience development; and
 
WHEREAS, the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh provides opportunities for young emerging artists to perform in creative new and reinterpreted works; and
 
WHEREAS, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh provides opera to underserved communities by building diversity in programming and casting and through outreach and education; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Wagner's spectacular Ring Cycle, which has never before been performed in Pittsburgh, is four operas in two weekend cycles in English; and
 
WHEREAS, the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh's production of the Jonathan Dove/Andrew Porter translation and adaptation of Wagner's Ring Cycle debuts in Pittsburgh, July 14th, 2006 and is being franchised nationally and internationally from Pittsburgh.
