Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group, its board of directors, and all its volunteers for their dedicated service to the community and the region; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 2nd, 2012, Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group Appreciation Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group works to preserve and advocate the use of shared-use trails in twelve municipal, county, and state parks throughout the Pittsburgh region; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group maintains over 140 miles of trails in public parks, and is the largest and most impactful non-governmental organization geared toward the betterment of public property in the Pittsburgh region; and,
WHEREAS, in following the guidelines of the International Mountain Biking Association, Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group minimizes negative environmental impacts in constructing and maintaining trails; and,
WHEREAS, since it was founded in 2001, Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group has, through grassroots networking, grown from a loosely-organized circle of mountain biking enthusiasts into a federally-recognized non-profit with a 501(3)c status; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group organizes hundreds of volunteers every year to gather and work to maintain and improve the mountain bike, pedestrian, and equestrian trails of parks in the Pittsburgh region for public use; and,
WHEREAS, through encouraging the population of Pittsburgh and the surrounding region to both make use of public amenities and to exercise by walking, running, or mountain biking, Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group helps to nurture a more fit and healthful populace.
