WHEREAS, the Elliott West-End Athletic Association (EWEAA) began in 1963 as the Elliott Athletic Association, a baseball association in the Elliott neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh; and

WHEREAS, in 1974 the EWEAA began a girls softball league and in 1980 they added boys and girls soccer teams. Today they serve nearly 300 children ages 3-18 in the sports of baseball, softball and soccer from 12 surrounding communities including Elliott, West End and Crafton Heights; and,
WHEREAS, along with the selfless group of dedicated volunteers, EWEAA works with Pittsburgh Citiparks BIG League Sports to provide quality education in the sports that they offer; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to serving the community with sports teams, the association organizes annual community activities such as an annual Halloween Parade and baseball/softball parade and picnic, both promotes community awareness and pride; and,
WHEREAS, the Elliott West-End Athletic Association celebrates their 60th anniversary of their successful athletic association on May 13, 2023 at Herschel Field, home of the best concession stand in the city; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Elliott West-End Athletic Association for 60 years of providing an environment that enables children and youth to learn and grow, not only as an athlete, but as a person; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, May 13, 2023 to be "Elliott West-End Athletic Association Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
